Health & Safety Specialist
Role: Assist with the implementation and maintenance of the company’s health and safety programs and procedures and processes to prevent and reduce the frequency and severity of workplace accidents.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist in coordinating the company’s health and safety activities and requirements
- Implement policies, procedures, programs to comply with regulatory health and safety requirements
- Assist with auditing processes, and in implementing effective health and safety solutions
- May travel to project sites to perform periodic audits and training, to ensure and enforce health and safety regulations/requirements
- Prepare periodic health and safety reports, statistics
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings to identify and address hazards, conduct inspections and make recommendations to management
- Participate in investigation and case management of workplace injury and incidents
- Implement periodic health and safety advisories to target specific hazards and participate in emergency planning/response
- Communicate with external health and safety providers re training services, equipment, PPEs
- Update and maintain health and safety training matrices; safety equipment, PPEs
Requirements:
- Completion of post secondary HR and/or OHS Certificate
- Working knowledge of OHSA – Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Previous exposure to and experience with incident and accident investigation and report writing
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Organized, planful, with creative problem-solving skills
- Strong sense of urgency
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Bilingualism – English and French – verbal and written, an asset
Working Conditions
- Not a hybrid role – In-Office 5 days per week; May travel to work sites across Canada
- Be available after hours and on-call for emergencies
- Access to a personal vehicle is required, with valid G driver’s licence and clear driver’s abstract
